    WHO IT'S FOR

Is Monthly Bookkeeping Right for You?

Monthly bookkeeping fits businesses whose books are current — or will be once a catch-up project is done.

    A Good Fit

Owners who want reconciled books and financial statements every month, businesses with employees or sales tax to track, and anyone who wants tax season to start from finished books.

    Not the Right First Step

If your books are months or years behind, start with catch-up bookkeeping. Monthly service begins once the backlog is cleared.

    WHAT'S INCLUDED

    What You Get Every Month

Every monthly bookkeeping engagement includes these deliverables.

    Bank Reconciliation

    Profit & Loss Statement

See exactly where your money is coming from and going.

    Balance Sheet

A complete snapshot of your business assets and liabilities.

    Cash Flow Statement

Understand exactly where your cash is going each month.

    Transaction Categorization

Every transaction coded to the correct category, with receipts matched where you provide them.

    WASHINGTON

    Bookkeeping Built for Washington Businesses

Washington's tax system shapes how your books should be set up. The Business and Occupation tax is charged on gross receipts, and different revenue streams can fall under different classifications — retailing, wholesaling, or service and other activities. When your chart of accounts separates those streams, your B&O return comes straight from your books instead of from guesswork.

If you collect sales tax, the tax you collect is a liability, not revenue. Washington sales tax is generally based on where the customer receives the goods, so businesses that deliver need the right location codes. We set your books up so sales tax collected, B&O tax, payroll liabilities, and income are each tracked where they belong.

Monthly bookkeeping keeps you current. If you are already behind, start with catch-up bookkeeping and we move you onto a monthly plan once the backlog is cleared. Industry-specific setups matter too — see our pages for gas stations and convenience stores and real estate investors.

We keep books for businesses across the state, in person through our Bothell bookkeeping office and virtually everywhere else; most of those clients also file through our Bothell tax preparation practice. For a practical view of the work, see our monthly bookkeeping checklist and bookkeeping mistakes that cost small businesses.

    COMMON MISTAKES

Bookkeeping Errors We Fix Most Often

These mistakes distort your numbers all year and show up at tax time.

    Recording Deposits Net of Fees

Card processors and marketplaces deposit sales after taking their fees. Recording only the deposit understates revenue and hides the fee expense.

    Counting Sales Tax as Revenue

Sales tax you collect belongs to the state. Booking it as income overstates revenue and your B&O base.

    Owner Draws Recorded as Expenses

Money you take out of the business is not a deductible expense. Miscoding it makes profit look lower than it is.

    Skipping Monthly Reconciliation

Unreconciled accounts hide duplicate entries, missing transactions, and bank errors until they are hard to trace.

No W-9s on File for Vendors

Collect a W-9 before you pay a contractor so you have what you need to issue a 1099-NEC — required for payments of $2,000 or more made in 2026.

    WHAT TO HAVE READY

    To Get Started

We connect bank feeds during onboarding, so most of this is a one-time setup.

    • Bank and credit card account list
    • Access to QuickBooks or Xero
    • Payroll provider details
    • Sales tax and B&O account information
    • Loan and lease statements
    • Last year's tax return
    • Vendor W-9s
    • Opening balances or last reconciled month
